Statement of behaviour principles
Statement of Behaviour Principles from the Governing Body
Background
Lane End Primary School is an inclusive school. Staff strive to provide a calm, safe learning environment for children where they feel secure and happy, and this underpins the school’s behaviour policy. The purpose of this statement of general principles is to provide guidance for the Headteacher in determining measures to promote good behaviour and discipline amongst pupils. The statement has been drawn up in accordance with the Education and Inspections Act 2006 and ‘Behaviour and Discipline in schools – Guidance for Governing Bodies’ (DfE 2016).
Behaviour Principles at Lane End Primary School
The Governing Body and staff at Lane End Primary School strongly believe that high expectations of good behaviour lie at the heart of our success. We believe that good teaching and learning and building positive relationships promotes good behaviour and good behaviour promotes good learning. Children have the right to learn and to achieve their potential in all areas of their lives, and school staff have the right to teach. Governors also believe that the expectation of high standards of behaviour in school can have a positive impact on their lives outside of school by encouraging them to be successful citizens in the local community.
Our principles are:
- Every pupil has the right to feel safe, valued and respected, and learn free from the disruption of others.
- Everyone has the right to be listened to, to be valued, to feel safe and to be safe.
- All pupils, staff and visitors must be protected from any form of discrimination or abuse.
- This is an inclusive school. All members of the Lane End Primary School community should be free from discrimination, harassment, victimisation and any conduct that is prohibited by or under the Equality Act 2010. Physical and verbal aggression or threatening behaviour is totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated- even if this occurs outside normal school hours.
- It is expected that all adults – staff, volunteers and governors – will set excellent examples of behaviour to everyone at all times.
- We seek to give every pupil a sense of personal responsibility for his/her own actions and respect the rights of others.
- Our Behaviour Policy ensures that there are measures to encourage positive behaviour, self-discipline and respect. There is also clear guidance on the use of rewards, sanctions and reasonable force. The policy explains that exclusions will only be used as a last resort, and outlines the processes involved in suspensions and permanent exclusions.
- Where there are significant concerns over a pupil’s behaviour, staff will work with parents/carers to foster good relationships, and to work together to support the child.
- Lane End Primary School will seek advice and support from appropriate outside agencies where concerns arise over a pupil’s behaviour.
- This written statement of behaviour principles is reviewed and approved by the full governing body annually.
